Chicago Sugar Gliders is a USDA licensed small scale breeder
located in Chicago, Illinois run by Kay Berger and Jose Aviles.
We specialize in Leucistic, Mosaic, Cinnamon and Butter Cream
joey's. We are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of
breeding and caring for sugar gliders, and have dedicated our
lives to these enchanting animals. We provide a loving and
affectionate environment and ensure that the gliders receive the
highest quality health care and nutrition at all times. We offer
extensive guidance and training at the time of adoption to
ensure that our gliders will continue to be well cared for
throughout their lives.
Jose Aviles has been raising sugar gliders for over 20 years
and breeding them for over 3 years. When he first came across
a sugar glider in a pet store at the age of 11, he was instantly
enchanted and decided to buy it. With lots of love and affection
he learned how to win over the little guy and was even able to
train him. Since then Jose has devoted his life to these beautiful
pocket pets. Jose is one of the few people in the world able to
train sugar gliders. Jose maintains a clean and comfortable
affectionate loving environment for all the gliders he breeds and
ensures they receive excellent care at all times from their birth
to the time they move to their new homes.
Jose's unique approach to Sugar Gliders caught the attention of Kay Berger in 2007 when she began a personal quest to find a pet for her family's children that wouldn't cause an allergic reaction.
Kay has always loved animals and has been especially fascinated by exotic animals. After extensive research to find a non-allergenic pet, Kay learned about sugar gliders, bought one for the family from Jose, and the rest they say is history. She soon bought a second one, and as the gliders became an adored part of the family, Kay realized she wanted to help bring these smart, adorable pocket pets to other families as well.
Says Kay “My family has always loved animals, especially my two sons, Jacob, 13 and Joseph, 11. We started out owning a dog but we sadly had to give him away due to Jacob’s severe allergies. We then tried rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs but he reacted badly to all of them. We’ve also owned such pets as turtles and lizards, but my sons really wanted to have a pet they could be affectionate with. We finally got a sugar glider and were delighted to find that it didn’t affect Jacob at all! We were fascinated by this adorable, affectionate animal and instantly fell in love. The boys now own two suggies and they’re a wonderful
part of our family.”
